Week of October 24-28

Reading-Students will complete Walk Two Moons, in class, by Tuesday, 10/25.  An assignment, also to be completed in class, will be given at its conclusion.  Students will consider obstacles and achievements the main character experienced.   This is the LAST week to submit books for credit toward the marking period.  The last HRP response deals with vocabulary from the book the students is reading.

Writing-Students will be using commas in a fun activity.  Prompts will be returned from this past week and conferences held.

Word Study-A new list will be given on Monday.  Daily assignments will be followed, except for Wednesday's definitions.  I do not expect the children to define every word!  Each week together we will choose a handful.  No puzzles need to be created, just definitions written. There will be an assessment on Friday.

Science-Supplies for Edible atoms are needed for Monday for our class and Mrs. Compton's class.  Mrs. Malcolm and Mrs. Scarpinato's supplies are needed for Tuesday.  This is a test grade!  Protons, electrons, and neutrons should be represented by food objects.  Hopefully your child has shared the rubric and explanation with you.  A quiz on the first ten elements will be given on Wednesday (Oddo and Compton), and Thursday (Malcolm and Scarpinato).  Students are expected to know: atomic numbers, name, symbol, and the atomic mass rounded to the nearest whole number.  They do not need to know the electron arrangement.  We will also begin studying the differences between mixtures and solutions.
