Reading Benchmark will be administered on Friday.
This week's assignments:
Reading-The new HRP was assigned last Thursday. Students are choosing books from a "blizzard of good books". This marking period students have multiple genres from which to pick, including biographies (Thomas Edison's will be assigned and counted as an HRP), Winter-themes, Whoppers(350 pages or more), Non-fiction, Historical fiction, and Animal allegories. On Thursday students should have a letter written that answers one of the questions posed on the sheet they received last Thursday. They will receive a log sheet similar to what they had last marking period on which they will log all the books they read.
In class, we are reading The Mistmantle Chronicles and working on tasks that mirror our multiple intelligences. By Friday, students should have read through the end of chapter 19 and complete the role assigned from their literature circle.
Writing-Expository piece will be started based on the hobby your child is showcasing in our annual Hobby Fair.
Word Study-a new list was provided on Friday of last week. We continue learning about Greek and Latin prefixes and roots. Test on Friday.

Happy New Year!
A few notes for the week:
Science- Project runway scripts and costumes are needed for Wednesday. I am collecting scripts! Costumes can be as simple as a colored t-shirt with items taped to it. There is a unit test on organisms on Friday. The test will cover the needs and characteristics of organisms, the classification system, and the 5 kingdoms. Students should use their notes, kingdom booklet, and handouts to study from. I will collect the kingdom booklets on Friday.
Word study-I gave all students a list of words with Greek and Latin prefixes. For the remainder of the year I would like to concentrate on these type of words. Please have your child follow the menu for assignments posted in the yellow word study note book.
Thank you! Mrs. Oddo
